About

Cats have always been closest to my heart, even though I’ve had several other types of pets ring my life. Dogs were also a constant in my life until just a few years ago. I think cats take top spot in my heart because they are the underdogs of the pet world, plus toe beans and nose boops!

I’ve been in official cat rescue in one capacity or another since 1999 when I went to a shelter for the first time in my life, looking for a cat of mine who had disappeared.  I never found my missing cat but I adopted an older kitten from that shelter later.  I also started volunteering as a foster for a cat rescue group after discovering how few cats and kittens made it out of a shelter alive back in those days.

Since that time, over 500 cats and kittens have come and gone through my doors as fosters. They came to me lost, abandoned, hurt, and sick. I’ve been a way station for them on the way to finding their forever homes.

I’m on sabbatical from official rescue work, but someone forgot to tell the cats that.  So, I find myself not infrequently being called back on duty when a lost cat shows up on my doorstep or feral cats need help through TNR (trap, neuter, return).

Rescue work of any kind is tough on the heart and usually the wallet as well.  To be able to keep doing it you have to take care of yourself as well as the cats.
